    Nice place to visit in Srignar Leh highway. The place gaves you the spectacular view of the Lamayuru/The Moon Land and offers us a spiritual experience. We were able to see some rituals performed by Monks. It also contain some prehistoric documents on Budhuism. The monastry is a must visit if you are travelling this route.

    We didn't go into the monastery but had lunch at the restaurant right at the entrance. We did some nice photographs of the monastery from a distant vantage point around the sunset. Few hundred meters above the monastery is a nice photo point overlooking the moon landscape. It seems accessible by walking from Monastery otherwise you need to take a bit of a road detour

    A picturesque monastery placed in the Ladakh hills very near to the Moonlands. The scenic beauty from the top of the monastery is simply out of the world. It is one of the biggest as well as oldest monastery in Middle Ladakh. Have a nice and cool time there with family and friends.

    Lamayuru Monastery is a historic and culturally significant monastery in Ladakh, India. Located 125 km from Leh on the Srinagar-Leh highway, Lamayuru Monastery is one of the oldest and largest existing gompas in Ladakh. Founded by Naropa, an Indian scholar, in the 10th century, it was originally a Bon monastery before being affiliated with the Drikung Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery features stunning murals, including depictions of Buddhist deities and mythological scenes. You'll find ancient paintings of cardinal kings and other significant artworks. The monastery complex houses beautifully decorated chortens and stupas. A small cave where Naropa is believed to have meditated, featuring statues of Naropa and Marpa. A two-day festival celebrated in the second month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, featuring ritualistic dance performances and sacred ceremonies. An annual masked dance festival is held in the monastery, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. May to September, with pleasant weather and clear skies. The monastery is accessible by road from Leh and Srinagar. You can take a taxi or bus from Leh or Srinagar. There are various stay options in Lamayuru, including hotels and guesthouses. Try local Tibetan cuisine at restaurants like Niranjana Lamayuru Restaurant. No photography inside the prayer hall, and be mindful of other rules. Entry fee Rs.50/- per head.
