4 months agoToday we visited Bahu Fort, one of the oldest and most iconic historical landmarks in Jammu. The fort is believed to have been originally built over 3,000 years ago by Raja Bahulochan, the brother of Jammu’s founder Raja Jambulochan. It was later renovated and strengthened by the Dogra rulers, especially during the 19th century. It is located about 4.8 km from city of Jammu. You can hire electric auto for ₹ 100/-. Maintained by the Archaeology Department, the fort is well-preserved, and the area around it offers a peaceful and scenic environment. Just before the fort entrance lies the famous Kali Mata Temple (Bawe Wali Mata), which is deeply revered by locals. Although the temple is currently closed to visitors, the exterior of the fort still offers an enriching visual experience. In front of the fort is a beautiful garden and a public aquarium, making it a pleasant spot for a short and relaxing visit. You can easily spend about an hour exploring the surroundings, taking in the views, and enjoying the cool breeze by the riverside. A great place to experience Jammu’s heritage, spirituality, and natural beauty all in one visit.

a month agoOne of the most revered place to visit is this fort built by Maharaja Bahu Lochan, who was the brother of Maharaja Jambu lochan after whom the city of temples i.e. Jammu is believed to have been named of, according to legends. As I have mentioned it is a sacred place, it is just because within its precincts it has a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali, which is also known locally as Bawe Wali Mata whose blessings keeps Jammu always safe.🕉️

a year agoBahu fort built by King Bahulochan, brother of Jambulochan - founder of Jammu. Said to be built 3000 years old, nothing remains much now. Their family temple is famous and now became spot for tourists and locals to visit. Shoes, belt, mobile phones, bags not allowed inside. Better not take it inside, though they have counters but too much rush will ruin your temperament. Overlooking gardens prioritising flowers which goes down the hilltop is averagely maintained. Children play park inside the Bahu garden.

7 months agoA historic fort located in Jammu and is a popular tourist attraction. This fort has huge walls and a garden located close to it. It houses a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali and is visited by devotees. Entry to the fort is prohibited. Photography is allowed outside the fort. Near the fort, views of the Tawi river as well as the garden can be seen. One can visit the fish aquarium and Bagh-e-Bahu located close by. Beware of monkeys roaming around in the vicinity. It is ideal for families and friends. It is a must visit and should not be missed when in Jammu.

2 years agoIt's a good piece of history, well maintained, but the entry is a bit restricted to a few places. Rest everything is fine. Thankfully it is still standing tall and mighty. The temple in the premises is a must visit.
