Once a king’s residence, this palace has now been converted into a museum. Four rooms in this palace are now made into historical museums and art galleries. They contain paintings, artefacts, and other necessary articles related to Jammu’s history. The main attraction of this museum is the golden throne of Jammu. It is said to be made of 120 Kg of pure gold. Other features of this museum include the paintings of M.F Hussain and Laxman Pai, along with other contemporary painters of India. Another striking feature of the Amar Mahal Palace Museum is the Pahari paintings that narrate tales of Mahabharata and popular folklores. Besides, it also comprises a library with 25000 historical books and a vast collection of art. Heritage walks are also organized here to give the visitors a detailed tour of this palace cum museum. History of Amar Mahal Palace Amar Mahal Palace was built in the 19th century as a residence of the Dogra king, Raja Amar Singh. Lush green patches and meadowlands surround it. It was the last residence of Dogra Kings. After that, it became a residence for Maharani Tara Devi. She was Raja Hari Singh’s wife. After the queen died in 1967, her son and his wife converted the palace into a museum in 1975. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated it. All this was done to preserve the Jammu district’s rich past. Structure of Amar Mahal Palace The Palace cm museum is built in a well-planned French-Chateau architecture style. The whole structure is made using red sandstone. It adds to the beauty of the palace’s surroundings and makes it a perfect destination for photography lovers and people visiting here.

Amar Mahal Palace was the castle where tha King lived during last two decades. Built in European style in front of Tawi River. The view of the city jammu and the river view is so beautiful. Now the mahal is converted into a museum. The staff posted in the museum is very good and explain in detail. The Throne is big and beautiful. The pictures photos and drawing are kept. The hall is decorated with tiles and glass. The bathroom was constructed with modern facilities like bath tub mirror closet shower etc. The entrance fee is little higher concerned authorities should look to reduce the fees.

A Beautiful palace situated on a hill with Tawi river view.. a perfect tourist place for the people visiting Jammu. 100Rs Ticket is fine but 250rs for Witnessing Queen’s room is not worthy.. There were also students who were indulged into live painting festivals session for upcoming Tawi river festival! All in all a very good Vibe a must place to be added in your itinerary if u are planning to visit Jammu!

This is really a good place. Chilled atmosphere, calmness in surrounding, away from the traffic, on top of a small hill and has a beautiful Jammu city and Tawi river view from backside. The entry ticket as of Oct 2024 is ₹100 for ground floor viewing. ₹250 for 1st floor access where the queen used to reside. Children rates are discounted. When I visited there were not so much tourists, hardly 4-5, that's it! One can easily spend at least an hour here. A must visit place when in Jammu
