6 years agoThe Basholi Fort, at Basohli, Distt Kathua, though in ruins tells us how majestic the past here had been. Among the ruins of the fort a garden is being maintained but a lot can be done to make the place worth visiting. The town was founded by Raja Bhupat Pal in 1635 who built the fort and the palaces, which are still beautiful despite their dilapidated state. The town is also known for the miniature paintings called the Basholi paintings, considered to be the first school of Pahari paintings, which evolved into the prolific Kangra paintings. The first mention of the Basohli paintings was made in the annual Archeological Survey of India report in 1921. A battle was fought here between the Sikhs and Mughals in 1702.

7 years agoThe place is good to visit but also dangerous. The park is good to enjoy and you can enjoy the two caves, having a slight bit of difference in temperature. Some ritual beliefs tells about the hidden gold inside the Fort but the traces have never been found. Some also believe that it changes to nest of snakes on being searched.

6 years agoThis old is ruined these days, properly not maintained in time, but still a place of great attraction for a specific class who like to see historical places. As it is situated at high level, so view of city and surrounding hills is very beautiful. Monkeys are in abundance but they don't disturb tourists. As it is not too far from Atal setu Bridge so worth visiting this place for people having such taste. No shop or eatables or drinking water is available inside, one has to carry it if required.
